Depends upon what you call good woodworking skills.  I sometimes
do furniture grade woodworking with all of the tendons dovetails
and other fancy work.  Richard's work isn't in that catagory but
you will build a decent scope if you follow what he says.  You
can build a lot lighter if desired but then you have to start
thinking more about the strength of the joints and make sure that
they are as strong or stronger than what Richard shows.
I'll note that there is no really "standard" way of building a
Dob scope as John Dobson didn't make all of his scopes with only
one pattern but rather with the stuff he had at hand.  He did
mostly use concrete form tubes because they are a cheap source of
tubes but he could have just as easily done the tube with
something else, even building up the tube from strips of wood.
Go do what you feel is best for you and remember that the tube is
something that can be easily replaced in the future if things
don't work out with your first try.
