Hello John: Yes, the conventional center spot can remain HOWEVER I suspect it should be other than a small ring of reinforcer as the image of the spot is lost near the center (and then regained if the spot is big enough). I have done this to several scopes (8in f/5 Newt, 10in F/8 Newt, 17.5in f/4.5) and find the 17.5in difficult I THINK because I have a reinforcer paper target and the spot and the paper is hole is not much bigger than the spot. The other two scopes are a charm, and I collimate with video camera, at times: www.bma2.org search CONSTELLATION April 2000, "Collimation" for images.
