Re: [ATM] OT: increasing mpg
Richard, according to that kind of thinking, cars like the Robin
(I don't know if you have that model any more but it was one of
the 3 wheel cars that got brought over here - I drove one and
scared the pants almost off the salesman driving it) would have
been sidelined a long time ago. Tires are put onto a vehicle
here in an attempt to project an image. Thus, many cars have
tires that are way oversized for the weight of the car. Other
cars, ones that are sold for economy, usually have tires that are
well sized for the car. Otherwise, why would one car use narrow
tires while a SUV, which may even weigh less than the car need
tires that are 30mm or more wider? Doesn't make sense. Sports
cars I can understand needing wider tires but that is only for
that little bit better cornering ability, something which most
drivers never get anywhere near the limit of.
I will agree tho that tires do have load ratings and you don't
want to go over that rating when selecting a tire. That will get
you a ticket if the tires were involved in an accident or were
obviuosly not matched to the wheels.
