The old bias ply tires did balloon badly.  However the newer
radial ply tires don't have that problem anywhere near as much.
I will agree tho that going way over the rated tire pressure
isn't a good thing to do as the tire warms up when driving and
that increases the tire pressure over what was in the tire when
cold.  I will note that the tire won't heat as much (but that
heating isn't that much less) as at a lower pressure.
Don does live up in the mountains and hopefully does know of the
dangers of driving up there in the tight radius curves and steep
hills.  Keeping the tire pressure up is one of the things that
really need to be done driving up there as low tire pressures do
make for a much worse driving car.
