For my spider vanes, I use unidirectional 0.007 x 0.25 carbon fiber 
laminates from ACP:

It is much stronger than stainless steel in any given thickness x 
width, and is black in color.

To blacken your existing stainless vanes, I suggest the 370 Stainless 
Blackener from:
http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/black.htm

It does not increase the vane thickness, like paint.

Of course, at the expected grazing angles of incidence that would 
allow first reflections (from the vanes) to enter your field of view, 
color has little effect.
