Jerry,

If you put a pound of glass on the table it pushes down with a pound of
force.
If you glue this same pound of glass with silicone to the same table it
still pushes with a pound of force.
The flexibility of the silicone does not affect a thing in the assumptions
about the force couple, made in the analysis of cell induced mirror
deformation.
