Re: [ATM] Re:(ATM) coating removal
I find that a mixture of muriatic acid (HCl, or hydrochloric acid, easily obtainable at building-supply houes) with some cupric sulphate (you can get this at garden supply houses) (or you can purchase super pure stuff from chemical supply places) works wonders.

Ferric chloride is sold by Radio Shack and other suppliers of electronic
components for etching circuit boards. It loves to eat aluminum. My
employer has an etching operation so I can get small samples of "used up"
ferric free. Even the used stuff strips mirrors very nicely. A fresh
solution should make that old coating disappear in a flash. It won't hurt
the glass or you, if you don't drink it. It will make rust colored stains
on almost anything organic (skin, cloth) so wear gloves and old clothes.
