RE: [ATM] mirrors
Hi Cristian,
Where in the great land of Oz are you, I'm QLD?
I've done a 10" (250mm) ASM mirror, I found the material to be a bit
"rubbery" while I was figuring, but once done it's held that figure very
well over the last 5 years now.
As for local glass you can talk to that mob in Sydney, big scope
retailer, they also do a bit of ATM stuff, but for getting your hands on
pyrex talk to Schott Carsgo(sp?) anyway they are Schott's local arm,
they sell 1" thick Pyrex sheets 25"X40" or so, I'm going from memory
here so I might be a bit out. The only thing is you have cut your own
blank out of stuff.
One thing to consider when doing a monster nirror is who's going to put
the coating on it? 24" is a lot-a-coating!
Anyway hope I've been of some help.
Clear skies,

Subject: [ATM] mirrors
Hi everyone
My name is Cristian and I have just joined your group.
I'm in the process of grinding out a 250mm mirror(I'm up to the fine
grinding stage) and I'm already looking into my next project. In
Australia it's difficult to find mirror blanks, most come from overseas
and cost a small fortune. Through your links I came across ASM products
page and I was wondering if anybody out there had made mirrors using
their products and if they hold their shape due to temperature changes.
I want to make a 24 inch mirror.
