I am sure you went through the same frustration as me with

Yes, i can do them with pyrex and i would even say they are "cute"

BUT the cost of pyrex or borofloat sheeting is, well, astronomical...
someone knows a decent source ?

The Palomar (pyrex) syndrome is burned in our collective mind forever.

For the non initiated : it does not matter the material coefficient of thermal 
expansion,
IF the mirror can reach thermal equilibrium with ambient air, and is then
in a isothermal condition (same temperature throughout its mass)
