It should be said that David did give me the mount for
the optics set he is talking about. I was to transport
and donate the mount to the Central Illinois Amateur
Telescope Makers but it turns out that they declined
to take it. The mount was too big to be practical for
a 16 inch or larger telescope. I had to take the seats
out of my (older and larger) Suburban just to
transport the mount. They figured that if they had a
"non-transportable" mount they would be better off
with a pier.

Not wanting to scrap the mount that David put so much
work and love into, I paid for it to be shipped and
stored (along with many other things I should have
trashed) when I was transferred to Texas. The moving
company managed to physically damage the base unit and
the whole assembly was exposed to water sometime in
the 5-1/2 months it was in their care. The wood
warped, swelled and delaminated and the bearings and
polar shaft were rusted solid when I received it.

Since it was not a commercially manufactured unit that
they could replace, they offered me a settlement for
the price of replacement materials only. I declined
and objected but did not have the resources to fight a
legal battle with a Nationwide company. I still have
the Fork Assembly in it's damaged state. The base was
ruined enough that I could not salvage anything from
it.

I am truely sorry that I ever accepted the mount from
David and wish that he would stop bringing it up in
conversation. (What he doesn't mention is that I did
make a monitary contribution towards his wife's
medical treatment at the time he gave me the mount and
at other times for keeping him on-line). I won't
mention those either. It's been one of those mistakes
I've made and regret immensly.
