You might try spraying some WD40 on the cut line before cutting the glass.
Kerosene also works well for this.
Then you need to bend the glass a bit as you tap along the line.  Something
heavier than the little ball end can be used - that ball end is good for
double thickness glass but is a bit small for thick glass.
A good sharp cutter also helps to get the split going.
