Re: OT: Re: [ATM] RE: Magnalium and add Null testing, here

Yes,

Thanks, all of you, for keeping me straight. I did make myself look like a
fool, didn't I, by forgetting SEVERAL other examples. One tends to think of
the dramatic.

On an ATM note, I am surprised that no one has suggested testing Cass.
secondaries with a pan of mercury or oil, by autocollimation. Surely,
amongst our giant crowd, someone remembers that both Roger Tuthill and
George Willis Ritchey both favored these methods? (Autocollimation; Ritchey
made and used large flats, child's play for him; Roger liked oil, and some
others favored mercury ("quicksilver") because of its higher reflectance).
Both would be long focus convex spherers (with a radius something over 4,000
miles) but flat enough to figure a passable convex Cass. secondary by
autocollimation.

I think the methods are written up in the old Albert Ingalls/Scientific
American three volume atm-ing books. Where have all the greyheads gone?

Well, you have the job, now, Gary: resident Aviation Historian (except for
the detailed histories of the giant rigid airships: that arena of history is
still mine alone, unless I am very much mistaken).

Even Arthur C. Clarke didn't know that the Hindenburg had a twin named the
Graf Zeppelin II (can you believe it?)-

Dave
