[ATM] Aluminium or stainless steel?
Hi,
As part of a mount I am making I need to determine whether to use (from
materials already at hand) a 50mm stainless steel shaft, or a piece of
aluminium tube 85mm in diameter with walls either 5mm or 10mm thick.
I need to be able to support a load of around 15kg at a distance of 500mm
from the nearest bearing. One end is supported and the other end is free.
I'm building something like a torque tube mount, and this will form the RA
axis.
Will either of these options provide sufficient resistence to flexure, or do
I need to go bigger?
Since I'm not an engineer I need a bit of advice here....
Cheers
Gary
