I was almost sure that one of these articles stated that the aluminium
substratre was coated with a nickle alloy; but I wasn't sure- thanks for
confirming this for me.

Unfortunately, 98% of those old Sky and Telescope magazines that tried to
drag me into the high tension lines at the south end of the runway at
"Eagle's Nest" airport (near Sand Springs, Oklahoma, with their 58 cents per
gallon aviation fuel) are all gone; given away over the years.

Thanks for reminding me of this! I even remember their name for the alloy;
but I would surely be wrong with it, if I stated it here, and then I'd look
like the guy with egg all over his face. I usually do have egg all over my
face...
