Tell him that Roger Tuthill used to do something even more dangerous:
suspend large mirrors upside down over a pool of oil or Mercury, with a film
of vegetable oil on the Mercury to dampen ripples, so he could test Cass.
combinations together, as in an autocollimator- I guess he just couldn't
find the scratch for a big flat, so he could do this all on the horizontal.
