I use a 1/2 hp motor on my machine to do up to 16" mirrors, but have 
increased it to a full 1 HP for my recent 22". The 1/2 horse just couldn't handle the 
lap. I must say I would never go back to pushing glass by hand after being 
spoiled. One of my friends went the route with 2 individual motors with better 
results. It made it far easier to step the motors down to speed and used far 
less complex pulleys. He used 2 1/2 HP motors on his setup.  My machine is a mass 
of pulleys but does the job.
