[ATM] Re: Grinding Machines
A 1/2hp motor should be plenty when properly gear down. When going from
1725 rpm down to 20-60 rpm you gain an enormous amount of torque, so you
have to make sure that the machine will properly transmit that power to
the spindle without ripping something off or breaking. My machine could
use a little more hp but only on start-up, The thick belts I used on
variable speed drive I installed can cause the breaker to pop if I don't
let the motor start up without to much load. I lift the motor a bit so
the pulley slips and I drop it once its up to speed.
