The formulas and the raytracing often don't agree with each other.  I'm not
too sure which is right but when extreme conditions meet the formulas, I'd
suspect that the formulas will continue to work well in the less extreme
conditions.  Remember that raytracing is also an approximation as the
numbers for angles are often very small and their effect very large on the
end result.  One of the big things in the various programs is how the sines
and cosines are calculated for those very small angles.
