[ATM] sonotube coating

Hi all,
I am going to rebuild the 10" telescope.  It has seen a few to many
alterations and too much abuse for the thin aluminum skin over the sonotube
to withstand.  I have another 7 foot length of sonotube that I am
considering having coated with the same material that is used as bedliner in
a pickup truck. It should be much more durable than paint without adding
much weight.  I wouldn't apply it as thick as it is done on a truck, perhaps
1/16" thick. Has anyone tried this?
