The process will work but does require the characterizing of the primary
astigmatism and grinding and polishing that correction into a small piece of
glass. If you do it with a spectacle prescription then it won't be so bad
to do but you still have another piece of glass in the optical path that
will take another several percent of light from the light available. In
addition, the end result isn't quite as good as what removing it from the
primary in the first place. I'd rather see a warping harness for the
primary than the lens in the light path.
