  I started with a 8 inch that works well as a good all around scope.

  But more important was the friend that knows how to make mirrors who
helped me with mine. Having a mentor made making my mirror so much easier,
for me anyway. Still took me several months to grind/polish but he help
catch minor problems before they became major ones. Plus he had a nice
design for a scope made from steel (see the wedsite below for my scope).
