Bob Goff (a noted optician who was very strong in the amateur community) did
a 6" mirror at RTMC ( high desert country with plenty of dust flying about
when 1000+ people go tramping by in the sandy dirt of that area) without
problems as well as John Dobson with a 10" mirror in one day.
Bob built an enclosure to insure that there was no dust around when he did
his figuring but all of the grinding was done outdoors.  The polishing
enclosure was a simple lightweight wood frame with clear plastic sheeting
making the walls with a overlay slit for a door.  A fan was used to provide
a positive pressure in the enclosure with a filter on the fan to insure that
there was no dust blown into the enclosure.
