RE: [ATM] Astonomy in Schools
Seeing as I build my own machine tools etc, I know this to be true.
BUT so long as the school agrees to use the scope I have no problems
with observing nights for the younger classes, I would actually
encourage this. I was mainly referring the the doing science bit when I
mentioned senior students. I just have a feeling that to do the science
I'm going to have to find them a short list of areas that they would be
able to work in where a smaller scope ( I have a choice of blanks for
this ranging from 6" through to 10") would be of use. So I was thinking
of variable stars or timing binary systems etc.

Think wider range also. How about the metal shop and wood shop classes
making scope mount parts? Would you be surprised to learn that many
scientists need machine skills to make their own equipment?

There is the 'get them young' theory. ;-)
Seriously, if you can get 5 of a thousand REALLY interested, you are
doing well.
Use them to mentor others. Age should not be the determining factor,
but, it is easy for me to say half a world away. ;-) ANY foot hold you

will be an
acheivement that most of us will never reach.
