There is a telescope manufacturer that claims the best way to support a 
mirror is to glue it to the support struture at precise support points using 
silicone glue. This in theory elimnates any pinching from mirror clips or 
astigmatism from lower edge supports like sling mounts.

What is the verasity of this claim and what if any downside is there to this 
method?
