ATM Coating Silver?

Gents,
I
am about to finish polishing and after inquiring about aluminium coating here in
Brisbane ($380 for 10"!!) I am looking at doing a silver coat instead. My
question is, Can the protective coatings they use on aluminium be put over the
silver as I assume it is not an electrically driven process in a vacuum
chamber?
