All I have handy is a brief description as follows: "...a new type of ultra-lightweight, inexpensive optical lens. High quality optical properties obtained by casting and do not involve either machining or high melt temperatures as do glass lenses. The weight of the ....lenses are less than one-tenth the weight of conventional lenses." Sounds almost too good to be true. I suspect the terms, such as "inexpensive", and "high quality" are relative. But if you want further details, call Larry Hrubesh, Staff Scientist at LLNL, 510/423-1691. RICH

I can imagine an aerogel lens used to make an electro-magnetic radiation of some wavelength *energy* focussing device (maybe radar or IR) but not for optical image use.

Do you have any more details?
