I heartily agree about seeing ATM2 (you can probably find it in a
good library, or some Astronomy club member may have it) for
description of "Springfield Mount".
IMHO, it is not a good idea to try to modify your present 'scope.
First, you will lose any "trade-in" or resale value it has.
Second, Springfield mounts require a rather longer focal length,
slower f/number to get the image "out" without a very large
central obstruction by the diagonal mirror.
In other words, you can make a motorcycle into a pickup truck,
but it ain't easy, and it may not work as well as something
designed for the purpose.
