On the "bondability" of Teflon et al: I've found the perfect way of attaching Teflon to painted/lacquered surfaces (don't know about others) -- no screws, no glues. I use mirror tile mounts, which are double sided tapes used to hold mirror tiles to walls. They bond extremely well to Teflon, are inexpensive (a few bucks for a couple of dozen), and ...

... are easily replaced in the field if they come off (though I've only ever had one pad come off in two years, and that was my fault). They also allow you to use thin (ie, cheaper) Teflon instead of pads thick enough for countersunk screws.
