The odysseyII cones with the nylon-pad mounting and a BIG nut&bolt holding the turntable together. It works okay, but if you don't keep track you can end up tightening the nut & bolt, or undoing them. It's fairly easy to replace the nylon & bolts with an "appliance" lazy-suzan bearing. It does make it "much easier to turn" as in the sonotube invariably gives accurate wind direction updates. When the motors go in, I'll bolt in a used flywheel "ring" gear, or use rubber wheels and friction. That should take care of the wind direction updates.

Now then... does anyone out there have a good source for gearboxes? Say something in a 30,000:1 ratio? I've got these two variable-speed reversable DC motors, that go from about 10RPM @ 4V 2A, to about 30RPM @ 12V 2A (top out at 66rpm @ 36v 2a). I need to gear them down a weee bit for the 'scope...

Thanks, and good luck!
