Re: [ATM] please help with mirror cell design

Mirror cells are not hard to make. The simple way is to sit down
at a drill press and start punching holes in aluminum at the
right places.
The basic of the mirror cell is to support the mirror at three
points. You can then add another layer onto those three points
with a support which supports the mirror at three points. This
is the 9 point mirror cell. Add another layer of three points
and you ccan support an even more flexible piece of glass. Add
another layer of two or three points and you're really up there
ofr a fine support. Note that the bearings between layers can
even be a blob of RTV is you really wnat ot go cheap. Better is
to use the decorative end caps which are spherical nuts and drill
through and finish tapping out the hole all the way through. Done
loosely, these work real well. The biggest thing about making a
multipoint tree like what you need is the boring time it takes to
get it together.
BTW, is the mirror speculum or glass??? They are different
materials!
