Why not just do the support out o f a piece of plywood?  It would
be a lot lighter than the steel pipe.  Even some 1x2s in a T
arrangement will be a lot lighter than the heavy steel.
You  really don't need to have a whole lot of rigidity in the
mirror support as its flexing won't affect the shape of the
mirror nor where it really is pointing to any real degree.
