Re: [ATM] ATM: "Fortune favors the bold"
David and all.
Bob Goff was my mentor as well. We met at RTMC in 1995. The man was a genius
and very kind. He always was willing to pick up the phone from his home in
Tucson and call me with advice when I needed a helping hand.
I grind using many steps, 60 or 80 SiO then 120, 220, 320, 500 22.5 micron
AlO, 15 micron, 9 micron, 5 micron and then 3 micron. When I get to three
micron I double the time. I am considering going down to 1 micron as it is
available very reasonably from Universal Photonics.
I have been using 2.8 micron CeO to polish, but I just picked up a 5Kg
slurry ofg Universal Photonics proprietary rare earth compound known as No.
85. The salesman, Jan, recommended it over CeO for amateur hand
applications.
FYI, Universaal Photonics took my order around 11:00 on a Monday morning, 2
Kg Gugolz 55, 2Kg Gugolz 64 and 5 Kg of Number 85 polishing slurry (The
smallest quantity they sell of this product as a slurry, which was what I
wanted). I had it the next day by 1:00 p.m. UPS from Long Island to
Brewster, NY. Total cost was 218.00.

Dave, Nice Warrior! Not a bad Fairchild either.
