Re: [ATM] Baffles in a Complex Design

Richard, all-

But of course; this was when I was laying out the perfect baffling of my 6"
f/12 cemented apochromatic triplet from Roland Christian; its performance
took one's breath away. But I doubt if there was such a program or a PC that
could handle that in '89. The lens went on a long journey; I bought it from
Roland; I sold it to a man who won the Kansas State Powerball Lottery, and
then fell over dead within the week; his brother inherited it (recovered it
years later)- he stopped me one day when I was passing his house (all this
took place over a period of years) and said to me: "David, come out to the
workshop. I have something for you."

To make a long story short, he GAVE me this lens back, in its original
tube-removable mounting that I made for it. It had cost me 1280 from Roland;
I sold it to the other guy for 900; I then advertised in for sale on Astro
mart for 2200 or best offer; a guy finally called and said: how about I
asend you a cashier's check for $3,500 this afternoon. I said: I will start
packing it now. Long gone, but not forgotten.

Ask Gary Fuchs or his son Matthew about their very good CAD software; I
forget what they call it (it is not "Solidworks"), but there was a pretty
capable free edition, to whet one's appetite. It was on my old machine when
it melted down. (But the dope on the harddrives is intact, and I saved
those!!!!!)

Good luck on this plan; I like the idea and see no reason why it should not
work.
