I found some 1/4-20 anchor inserts that fit inside the tubing I used on my scope....glued them in with J-B Weld (a two part epoxy). The epoxy is a good void filler and the inserts have stayed put for years ( I even carry the scope by the truss tube).
My tubes are 1/2 inch ski-poles I found at a garage sale....
