  Baking and ovens?? Holy moly, this is way overdone (so to speak...). The stuff will air harden in a couple of hours and is ready to use! To speed things up I just put the treated tool under a heat lamp and as soon as it's hard to the touch it's ready to go. I don't know about dental stone as I use Hydrostone for my tools. With no surface prep other than a quick coat of RSSTT I've yet to have any problem getting pitch to stick. 
   
  I don't know if the stuff has an infinite shelf life but if it doesn't, add a little more turpentine...
