Dry the tool good. A drop of water on the surface will
immediately darken a small area immediatelyl when you are dry.
When the tool is dry, you can then wash it with turpentine (not
paint thinner as that won't soften pitch any) and the next coat
of pitch will stick just fine. Do the pitch immediately after
wahing the face of the tool as you want it wet with the
turpentine so that the turpentine will draw the pitch into9 the
tool.
Also, the turpentine wash will get rid of any oils that you may
have used in making the tool release easily from the glass. This
doesn't work with detergents tho and they should first bne
removed with a good water wash followed by a good drying.
