     Just an idea but if you're pressed for space why not use the wall as
one side of your tunnel and have it collapsible so it folds up against the
wall. Some foam or wood or something as the top hinging down from the wall
and just plastic as the third side with the floor being the fourth. Sort of
like a truck tailgate with a roll of plastic attached to the top that just
rolls down to floor height. 

     If you really want to be devil-dog make the top shelf part strong
enough so the top of the tunnel is a wide shelf.
