Re: [ATM] How do I test a convex surface?

I recently investigated the refractive index of many commonly available
fluids for some refractometry I am doing.
I found Johnson's baby Oil much lower than suggested here which is the main
reason I am replying.

Here are some which do not air harden.

Johnsons Baby Oil 1.458
Olive Oil 1.466
Canola Oil 1.470
Castor Oil 1.475
Medicinal Liquid Paraffin 1.486
Xylene (bought as a paint solvent) 1.495

I am not sure of the purity of these but they are probably typical of what
is commonly available.

There are few 'common' fluids over 1.5 so the suggestion of very strong
Sugar solution may be very competitive and far more innocuous. Some of the
suggested testing fluids would be very hard to get now and are not very
nice. And I dont fancy breathing close to large quantities of Xylene
without a lot of precautions.
