Hi Anthony,

I have made a couple Barlows from 2x Teleconverters from 35 MM 
Cameras. 

You can pick these up really cheap at swap meets or flea markets, 
especially if they are for odd camera brands (most I've spent for one is $5). 
Generally they have nice coatings also, which you won't have if you grind 
your own. 

The lens assembly unscrews from inside it, and generally just fits into an 1 
1/4" barrel. They may not work as well as the 'premium'  Barlows, but are 
quite good, and a simple project.
