Re: [ATM] Protect a finished optical surface to work on reverse
Collodian can be obtained from suppliers of wet-plate glass photography in
the States and elsewhere. Google "collodian process" or "wet plate
collodian."

There is a product made for this purpose, called "Pre-cote 33 Blue
Spray" protective coating, part #LB0004 sold by Universal Photonics,
Inc. Hicksville, New York. It comes in an aerosol can and is applied
like spray paint. Dries in a couple minutes for handling. To remove,
just peel it off. I've used it for years to protect my finished
mirrors from dust and fingerprints from handling. I was unable to
obtain collodian, as Thomas suggests, since it's considered a
hazardous material in California.
Their website is under reconstruction and doesn't tell you much, but
you could call them for more info at (800) 645-7173.
