You could use either. Grind more worry less.  However
the pipe cap usually will hog faster.  Use Center over
Center stroks.  The clasic use of tile tool is after
you have done the hogging and have the curve you want.
 Then you MAKE the tile tool using the mirror as a
mold so that it conforms to the curve and will not
wear the edge tiles so much that they become too thin.

Why did you make the tile tool first?  You must have
missed the instructions that can be found several
places including those on GotGrit.com.  Don't worry
you will now just have to make the tile tool again at
the right time.  Since that is the case you could use
it to hog.  It is not the most efficient of hoggers
but it will work.  I recommend the pipe cape it worked
for me on my 16" F5.
