     Indeed any number of stages of grit will probably work. I myself would
probably err on the lesser side as I hate to clean up but love to grind. 

     With this talk of polishing the back, why not use a "brute force"
method of a car waxer/polisher? I think the reason you guys have been saying
to polish the back is to relieve some small grinding strain and I don't
think the heat generated by the car waxer is enough to distort or strain a
blank, could be wrong though. Wouldn't you have to get it up near annealing
temp? If it is just for looks, a car polisher will get you there in a very
short time.
