Fine SiC is used in Wet 'n Dry abrasive paper (don't know what you
call it where you are). It's used in car paint spraying and retouching
operations so it must be made in huge quantities. You can't walk into a
DIY store in the UK without seeing it. Consequently I've never found
it hard to get fine SIC (I use down to 1000 and then move to 12um
Alox)

A very high quality supplier in the UK who deals in bulk but is happy
to supply amateurs is Trent. I'm sure they would ship overseas if you
are are stuck for local supply. If you do order, try some of their sub
micron CeO. They do a 95% purity 5um CeO for fast polish which you can
follow up with their 99.9% purity sub 1um CeO for perfection.

By the way, just noticed they stock Microgrit in 30, 25, 20, 15, 12,
9, 5, 3 and 1um. 20kg boxes though :(.
