In light of the discussion and some of my grinding experience, I've 
revised the fine grinding section (0.1) of my online figuring article 
a bit:

It's very true that carbo and AlOx are different types of abrasives, 
and this must be taken into account.

Personally, I like to finish carbo with 320 and then go to 25u AlOx. 
Carbo wears out more quickly and I find AlOx easier to work with in 
general, so I prefer just to run with 25u for a longer period to 
remove the subsurface damage from carbo.

I also give some glass-specific abrasive suggestions (section 0.11) 
depending on the type of blank and tool.
