There she was, Ellen DeGeneris, in a business suit staring up at me with a
smile on her face. I must be making progress, I'm already using the
entertainment section to cover my workstation. Pretty soon I'll be through
the sports section and ready to make a pitch lap.

Yesterday was a great day for me. Jimmy, my son returned to Fort Polk, LA
from Afghanistan, without any physical harm, (He didn't even hear the
suicide bomber who ignited in an attempt to off VP Cheney at the gate to
Bagram Airbase, where Jimmy was stationed) my parents renewed their wedding
vows on their fiftieth anniversary of their wedding,(With a great party
afterwards at Sam's in Dobbs Ferry, NY) Seamus, my youngest turned ten
years old, and I have completely polished out my 8" f/6 mirror at Dick
Parker's mirror workshop, what could be better?

I actually tried to parabolize the mirror from a dead on nuts perfect
sphere(no turned down edge either!), but I went for 20 minutes of long W
storkes and overshot by alot. I'll fix it next week, the last week of the
workshop, and be done with it.

Today, I resolved the abrasives issue by grinding for an hour with SiO 500
grit. Thanks to all who gave their input. Tom Moulton, the mirror is a 12.5
f/5 or 6, I don't remember. By the way, an hour of grinding, actual glass
over glass time, takes me about 75 minutes with adding abrasives, cleaning
off the swarf a couple of times, and a complete washing of the mirror and
tool after three ten minute wets when I go from mirror on top to tool on
top. My next step is to go to 15 micron AlO then to 9, 5 and 3, prior to
making the pitch lap and waiting for the basement to warm up sometime in
May.

I hope that everyone had a nice weekend as well.

Regards,

Francis J. O'Reilly
