Ah, I'd rather just build a seperate thickness gauge where the
glass is supported in the center by a small flat (1/8" diameter
or smaller) and then have the measuring device come down onto
that for measuring.  The glass lies between and is measured
directly.  Outrigger supports keep the glass from tilting too far
and affecting the results.  You can have a supprising amount of
tilt before the measurement is affected that much.
