[ATM] Glass cutting speed

Aloha Marinus,

Check the ATM archives for a wealth of info and opinion on trepanning.

I find that trepanning in that manner for the 10 cm diameter to be
adequate, 40 rpm may be safer for the 15 cm ones. It is easy to
avoid entry and breakout chipping by sandwitching the blank, with
wax, between scrap window glass. Thin glass on top is sufficient,
and I suggest 6 mm or so on the bottom. Cool the sandwitch slowly and
completely before beginning your cuts.

Reducing pressure at the end, and being patient, is good technique.
Pulsate the pressure, and partially withdraw the ring often to ensure
uninterrupted cooling and distribution of fresh abrasive, during the
trepanning.

Patience pays off here in the Sandwitch Islands, <chkl>
