Re: [ATM] Glass cutting speed
Hi Rien,
I've trepanned a couple of blanks this way. 60 RPM
should be fine for 4" and 6" blanks. You don't want to
go so fast that you sling the carbo/water slurry off
the glass or tool. I used 30 to 40 rpm for 13" blanks.
If at all possible, you want to put (cut? file?)
notches in your metal band to allow the grit and water
to drop down into the groove in the glass and stay in
constant contact between glass and cutting tool
surface. Also as you near completion of cutting
through the glass be very careful to reduce pressure
on the cutting tool or else you'll punch through the
remaining width of glass and create clamshell
fractures on the back side of your new blank.
Good luck and feel free to ask more questions if you
think of them!
