Ulhas' page was composed with Microsoft Word. MS Word does a bunch of
very non-standard stuff when it makes html "web pages". MS Internet
Explorer will show the page properly, but browsers that are built to the
standards, instead of MS non-standards won't display it properly. This
is a common problem. Several months back, an atm wanted to put several
pages on atmsite. They were composed in MS Word, and worked fine in
MSIE, but not on other browsers. I spent quite a bit of time hand
editing to clean out the non-standard MS code. Cleaning out the
unnecessary and non-standard stuff also brought the file sizes down by
10 - 25%, good for everybody.
Since I do most of my html by hand, I can't recommend a good,
inexpensive (preferably free) html editor that sticks to the standards.
www.mozilla.org "Mozilla Suite" has one. I don't know how good it is,
but I am sure they will stick to the standards.
Nandu is an "extension" html editor for Mozilla Firefox
Nandu is at
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1143&application=firefox
Of course, you have to install Firefox before installing Nandu. Since I
really like Firefox, I don't think this is a big handicap.
There is also a free and open source html editor that was spun off of
the Mozilla project called Nvu. It is at http://www.nvu.com/
Can't say how good it is, because I haven't tried it. The description
on the web site looks pretty good. I may have to give it a try.
As well as a Windows version, there is a Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher
version and a few Linux versions of Nvu.
