Actually, for these Petzval-like designs, I'm using a (to me)
weird merit function. I'm not using the default merit function
at all, but some more primitive operations.
However, I generally do not like to use position limiting
operators. I have some thickness goals, expressed as a fraction
of the semi-diameter, but not limits.
I've not found the global optimizer much help yet. However, when
I actually found this solution, I started by forcing two surfaces
flat; I suspect that means I may have some excess degrees of
freedom -- even after adding the extra requirements for zonal
correction and flat field.
